The increase of Islamophobia in many countries are confirmed by the United Nations’s release. The Centre of Islamic Research and Development of Jakarta (PPIJ) or well known as Jakarta Islamic Centre will hold International seminar “Rejecting Islamophobia Through the Concept of Al-Wasathiyah”.
Dr Taufik Hidayat, M.Sc said that the concept of Al-Wasathiyah was deliberately carried out in this international seminar, because Islam is a religion with a middle concept.
“The term Al-Wasathiyah refers to the expression of the Qur’an with a noble meaning, namely the Muslim Ummah or Nation that has the characteristics of justice, excellence and balance.” He said to islamic-center.or.id, Thursday (15/9/2022).
Head of Sub Division Consultation and Muslim Ummah Service, regrets that the concept of Al-Wasathiyah is distorted into other meaning that weaken its true meaning.
“This seminar will elaborate the concept of Al-Wasathiyah from a theoretical framework into practical applications.” He said
Dr Taufik hopes that this seminar can describe the theoretical framework by the Islamic scholars to uncover the roots of accusations against Islam and bring up alternative perspectives to combat Islamophobia through the concept of Al-Wasathiyah.
“Hopefully this activity can minimize propaganda against Islam and maximize the role of the mass media to represent the real Islam with persuasive approaches and techniques.” He said.
